The ANC”s tag line for the 2009 general elections in South Africa was “Together We Can Build”. For two reasons this seemed to me to be quite a statement. Firstly, at the time and to this day, many of those living in South Africa find themselves living in shacks. Many of these people having been waiting years for the promise of a house to be realised.

Secondly, the Jacob Zuma led ANC government was and still is known for its extreme levels of greed, corruption and waste. In fact the antithesis of the together that the election posters hinted at. In 2012 this installation was put up under a fly-over in Jeppes Town Johannesburg. Within days it was gone. The only sign of it ever having being there was the little bit of concrete that had been used to hold down a sculpture.
