Rainbow Nation is a coloring book that came about after a chance meeting. A passenger on a flight between Cape Town and Johannesburg there was a passenger that was absolutely terrified of being on the plane. A friend of theirs had given them a coloring book. The idea being that by focusing on the book the passenger would be able to ignore their fear. In truth though they were unable to.
Coloring books in the main are designed as things of calm and beauty. As a stark contrast Rainbow Nation serves as a stark contrast. It’s pages contain mandala’s that highlight just some of the ills that the people of South Africa find themselves invariably talking about. These are the fears that with all their best intents, just like the frightened passenger, the people cannot stop themselves from focusing on.
