These Mandalas are were created from macro shots of Abalone Shells. In South Africa they are known as Perlemoen Shells. This is Dutch and means ‘mother of pearl’. Although it is illegal to remove them from the Sea, poaching is still rife. Efforts to bring a stop to the poaching is hindered by poor funding and corruption. In some areas poachers are seen as heroes in their local communities.
